1998 Cobalt 202CS
This 1998 Cobalt 202CS is a classic open bow tournament ski boat that rarely becomes available for sale due to the limited production and the traditional practice of Cobalt boat owners to keep their boats for many years. There were 96 boats built during the years 1998 and 1999. The boat was accredited by AWSA as a tournament ski boat and had excellent reviews due to the performance and high quality. However due primarily to the small niche market for these boats Cobalt decided to focus on their other models going forward. I can tell you more about the history of this boat since I have always researched and owned the best boats available, such as from Donzi Marine, Magnum Marine, RaysonCraft Boats, Tempest Marine, and Cobalt Boats. Let me know if you want to know more.
I am the second owner, and the first owner was the maintenance manager at one of the largest Cobalt dealers in the USA, so the boat was always kept in exceptional condition and on a rack indoors. I bought the double axle Load Rite aluminum trailer and added three stepping pads on the frame to enable easier and safer launching and retrieving.
This boat blends tournament level performance with traditional Cobalt comfort, convenience, accessibility, and long-term boating and skiing value. This includes: a Kevlar reinforced hull, a Mercury 315hp Black Scorpion engine, a leather tilting steering wheel, a flip-lip helm seat for easier boarding and docking, an upholstered dash with dual speedometers, a water temperature gauge, a water depth gauge, an hour meter, stainless steel switches, a cockpit floor mounted ice chest, a lockable glove box, an absorbent dampening package for sound and vibration, an AM-FM radio and CD with remote, a removable teak swim platform with a red canvas protective cover, a lockable transom ski locker, a cockpit heater, a battery switch, an ignition safety switch, an accessory power plug, a bow scuff plate, flush mounted mooring cleats, removable bow and cockpit carpets, an automatic bilge pump, and a red canvas mooring cover.
This boat is solid, and rides remarkably well in choppy waters too. I know the difference since I skied across Lake Michigan three times in the 1960s and participated in water ski shows in NE Wisconsin at the time.
The boat is now for sale since it is rarely used. In my recent research 24 of these boats have come up for sale in 22 years. However this one stood out as having the best maintenance history and overall condition, which is critical when buying a classic boat for the long term. You will not see another boat like this show up at the launch ramp.
