End of Season Special through Oct 10th!
I am offering my freshwater only 1997 Cobalt 253 ebony sport stripe, including a custom/matching Trailmaster trailer. The boat is in very good condition, professionally & preventatively maintained, always well cared for, summer racked stored and heated winter stored.
The power set up is a Merc 454, 7.4 MPI, 330 hp. Bravo 3 drive, 445 hrs. Cruising speed approximately 40 mph, top end 56 mph, holds on plane very well at slower speeds, has a quick hole shot, and maneuvers very well. Obviously, if you are on this board you understand the Cobalt quality and performance. This boat continuously gets compliments & looks at the gas dock.
Some of the boat options include: rosewood dash, power engine compartment, docking lights, stainless tow/tubing ring, cockpit cover, full cockpit enclosure (new 2005 & rarely used), portable head with pump out, cockpit carpet, wet lockers, dual batteries (new ’09), radio with CD, integrated draining side coolers. The custom/matching (black) Trailmaster is dual axle with braking system, sport wheels, chrome foot steps, all tires replaced in 2007, very lite use, trailers very well.
I have more photos so please contact me if interested. I love this boat, but I am moving West and this is way too much boat for the mountain reservoirs, so I am motivated to sell. The boat is located on the Detroit River/Lake St Clair, Michigan.
Call or email Scott – 313-268-1350. $27,500. I am offering an end of the season special before the boat goes back into heated winter storage on October 10th: $24,750 for my fresh water 1997 Cobalt 253 and custom matching trailer.
We have a 97′ 252 and love it, are thinking about putting a boat up on Lake Powell instead of trailering ours from Dallas. We purchased ours in May of 08′ for 22K with 290 hrs on a trailer and I just turned down a 99′ 252 in CT without a trailer on E-Bay for 14K.
When you say motivated, how does that translate to dollars?

George — thanks for the note. I like your Lake Powell idea, actually kicked that idea around since I will be in SW Colorado. It does not look like we would be anywhere near doing a deal. 14k for a ’99, even beat up a bit, sounds like a steal.

The other thing to look at gentlemen…is this is a 253…NOT a 252. There is a big difference in boat. Scott, I think the price you have listed this boat for is very fair. Just my $0.02. George, add $4000.00 to that boat on ebay for a trailer equivalent to Scott’s. Now you are at $18K.
Hey Jason, I am new to Cobalts, so can you tell me what the big difference is between the 253 and the 252? I noticed they only made the 253 for a few years whereas the 252 has been around for a very long time.
Lance — I believe the mix is about 70% open versus 30% cuddy, based on customer demand/orders. I would say/guess Coabalt made a business decision to streamline models & went only open under a certain length. It really is a personal preference and what type of boating you do. If you look where most Cobalt’s are located (basing this on 4 sale listings), you will see they are on a lot of smaller bodies of water & strictly day boating. My side, I boat the Great Lakes, and although 90% day boating, I like to occassionally spend a nite on the boat (Put-in-Bay). I would actually go larger than 25ft for most other boat brands, but the 253 is just so solid. Plus, styling wise, I prefer a cuddy and find it a bit more flexible. But I could see someone buying a 19-23 ft Cobalt an open would be a nice choice, as you are staying on smaller water; or if you are piling a bunch of kids in the boat. Those are my thoughts & why I purchased a “3”.
Thanks for the reply Scott. I have had my ’96 253 for a couple of months now, and LOVE it. My wife wanted an open bow at first, but she fell in love with the 253 when we looked at it. It turns out the cuddy cabin has been AWESOME for us – we have a 6 month old baby, and he can take naps in the cabin and get out of the sun. The other day we were on Lake Tahoe and it started hailing. All the women piled into the cabin and enjoyed their cocktails and listened to music while the boys laughed at the crazy weather outside. haha
On another note, anyone know where to get a good quality bimini for a 253? My local Cobalt dealer wasn’t much help…
Lance
That’s a good Tahoe story (and good reason for having a cuddy), the elements always add some excitement!
I purchased my enclosure through the local dealer, but I am sure you could make arrangements through a different dealer and have Cobalt drop ship directy to you. You may try calling Cobalt customer service & explain your situation, they will come up with a solution. Otherwise, you could look for a good local canvas guy, just make sure you use a high quality Sunbrella fabric (same as Cobalt).
Scott; Is your 253 cobalt still for sale?
Yes, the boat is still for sale, currently in heated winter storage & accessible.
Is this boat still for sale?
Drew
My boat is still for sale, and currently sitting in winter storage with access.
You’re probably tired of hearing this… but is your boat still for sale? she sure looks pretty from the pictures!
Yes, the boat is still available. Where are you located & are you interested to buy this style boat?
I had a 1997 Crownline 202 cuddy with the same 7.4- Great motor and sound. I’m selling my 2004 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer here in Texas hoping to get something that is a little easier to trailer and launch (lower profile). Does your trailer have a spare? Does the boat have a stove or microwave so that it might qualify as a “second home”? What color is your canvas?
The trailer does include a spare, you can see it in the trailer photo, mounted near the tongue. No microwave. Canvas is black, camper top is black.
Would you be able to send me more pictures to my email? Could you tell me if the stains that appear on the hull at the waterline are permanent? Do you have all the maintenance records? Thanks for answering all these questions! Looking forward to more pictures of your pretty boat!
You have what appears to be a very nice boat. When looking at NADA and putting everything listed on the website along with the trailer- I couldn’t come up with anything higher than 22K. I’d like to fly out there and look at your boat… Please contact me via email so we can work out a time to view the vessel and maybe a deal!
Jeff — in the body of the ad there is an area to email me (or call) direct “Scott’s email”, so please send me an email and we can talk some specifics. Look forward to speaking. Thanks.
Greatings, En la carga de antivirus mi pбgina de poner alerta, por favor de verificaciуn.

Scott, I would like to receive more pictures.
