New member Scott James has a gorgeous 1996 Cobalt 232 sporting a Volvo Penta 7.4. He wants to gain more performance and better mileage out of it if someone can help. Scott is looking for suggestions, says he considered a “supercharger” but the money isn’t there at the moment. Scott is very handy and can accomplish most of the work himself. If you have any suggestions, please email Scott as he would be very appreciative.
Scot,
I’m a M.E. and I can promise you a super charger is fun and you will go faster but it will drink much more gas and increase your cost of owner ship well beyond the capital expenditure. If your looking for better millage you might invest in a fuel flow meter or borrow one. That with a GPS you can determine an optimum speed for max range and economy. I don’t know if the engineers at Cobalt already know this. They may not. If not they may be interested to know. If you don’t want to take the time to take multiple readings and do the math there are likely several programs that you might run with a GPS input in one USB port and the fuel flow output in another USB port and let the software do the rest.
Hope that helps.
