New Club Member Sasha Mitic needs help with propeller pitches, computer adjustment. Please email Sasha if you have some good technical ideas.
I have a 2000 227 with a 502, bravo 3 drive, 2:1 ratio and downpitched props for altitude running (Lake Tahoe, 6220elev). Can anyone help with propeller pitches, computer adjustment. I now run the boat at Lake Meade (NV) which is about 1100elev. I can run 76mph (radar and
GPS tested) but the boat feels like i needs more bite. Besides changing the props are there any computer adjustments (re-program) or anyhting else i can do to make it more altitute friendly. In Lake Tahoe, the speed, fuel usage, holeshot are fantastic but in lower altitude it just feels slugish and thirsty….Thanks to anyone that can help. ~Sasha
Sasha:
I have a 227 that I run in salt water with a 5.7L duoprop. I top out at 54mph with the engine turning at it’s max rpm. My thoughts are that if your 502 is running within a few hundred rpm of max there isn’t much you can do by reproping. At lower altitudes you are feeding denser air and if your 502 uses a massflow computer system you will use more fuel as it automatically compensates.
I guess that I don’t understand the “downpitched” props for altitude since decreasing the pitch increases the engine rpm for a given load implying that your boat was originally overproped and couldn’t reach max rpm.
