William Cox and family are enjoying life in their Cobalt 226. As you can see, they enjoy incredible sunsets and beaches at Sebago Lake, Maine. If I get to Maine, William, I’d like to go for a little zip around the patch with you in your 226!
In his own words, William gives us the low-down.
“We live in Simsbury , Ct and own a 226 with Volvo Penta 5.7 GXi ….bought used a few years ago …love the boat ..it’s look , feel , performance … put in the wood kit ..( looks like cherry wood ) …black “sport” paint with black covers and bimini . Wake is a little big for the slalom skiers in the family but a great wake board boat. Do all our boating at Sebago Lake , Maine … and the 226 handles the big lake water well. Have been tempted to add the additional swim platform but find that we often beach the boat with stern out and think the boat may get knocked around more ….
Have a trailer ….only used for storage. Will never sell her …
hopefully I can continue to get gas without ethinol so the engine lasts ….love the counter rotation props … but a little clumsey when docking compared to other boats I have owned…. perhaps I need a lesson. The 226 does not have a mark on her …. I will not allow it …. drives my wife nuts….but my son and daughter are in my camp!”
Yo, William Nice boat! I own a 20’6″ Cobalt (live in Eureka Springs,
Arkansas…in the heart of the Ozarks!) and would like to have the
extra 2′ but she’s a keeper – low hours, very clean, and an oversized Mercruiser that I am happy with! Am curious…you mentionned the
“wood kit” (which really looks great on your boat) – where did you
find that? And also the swim platform…I have thought about adding
one – where would I go to obtain one? Best wishes for a fine summer
of boating & water sports!
Much thanks, Ron
Ron …I did not get the swim platform ……but I’m sure your nearest Cobalt dealership can help you with that decision ….the dealers are listed on the Cobalt website. My “wood kit” came from the Cobalt dealer as well. There are several different types of wood ( pick yours carefully )for different models and I understand some models do not offer the wood .
Ron, your local Cobalt dealer has swimplatform, they cost 2395.oo plus installation, they are permanent mount. I have a 2000 227 (cuddy) and its at the dealer now getting it installed. They will also have purchase an outdrive bumpstop kit since the platform will not allow the outdrive to be fully raised. Also beware if you have a thru-hull exhaust, there will be lotsa cleaning since the engines run rich and black soot shows (and i mean shows) on anything white. You also have a get another boarding ladder as the stock one will not work. The new ladder will attach to the botton of the swim platform. If installed correctly, the swim platform should sin appx 1″ or less off the water when the vessel is afloat and partially submerges when beached (3-4 inches of it depending on the angle of the beach).
Sasha …..thanks for the additional info ..the price slowed me down on the platform but the other issues you mentioned helped me decide to hold off ..
Bill
Nice pictures of Maine Bill. Just think how many more pictures could be taken with a longer boating season in the Carolina’s or Georgia. Your daughter could have a few more dives and even bring some guy friends along to meet the prents!!!
